JANUARY / 2001

In a world of high technology,  manufacturing round braided endless belts remains basically  unchanged since the conception in 1886.  Louis Phoenix Warner invented the method for making and endless braided belt on a modified Maypole type braiding machine.  Previous to this method, all round belts were leather hooked together or ropes spliced endless using mechanical devises.

Materials were limited to cotton, silk and linen.

The machinery, except for  in house modification, has not changed  since the 1880’s but the material available has driven the ropes into unlimited applications.  The fine threads that make-up the ropes  help manufacture 1.8 billion square yarns of machined carpets each year in the United States, assist in 100,000 plus medical procedures and cliff hangs the  sporting industry. To meet the demands of the high tech world our belts are now manufactured with nylon, polyester, nomex, spectra and high temperature material that are developed by Dupont, Firestone and other fiber manufactures.

Adding new coatings (saturants) of neoprene, urethane and etc. have allowed for improvement of durability and life span.

Belting Industries has a family history of 42 years in the belt production business.  We purchased the family owned L.P. Warner Company in 1979 and continue the operation in Sodus, New York.
